I've heard it said, 'You are who you pretend you be.' It is an interesting thought. If you have spent any time on a social media site, you see people pretending. We spend thought on what label we will give ourselves when creating email accounts, user names and avatars that show online. I am AWE3 here, but is that my name? Not really. You are using an alias every time you leave your email address. As are your neighbors.
I have always tried to show a positive front with my online life. But very recently, I have decided to take it to a new level. I am going to embrace the saying above, 'You are who you pretend to be.'
For the longest time I have pretended to be unable, unwilling, clueless and afraid. This conflicts in the face of me trying to be positive and upbeat. But what I have been doing is only paying cursory attention to those items that need work.
It was called in my former line of work 'Putting out fires'. Only fixing what needs fixing when it breaks instead of preventing it from happening in the first place.
Many of us are guilty of doing this. Sometimes things pile up in your life so quickly or heavily, that it is easier to patch it and move on. That isn't so bad if you go back and repair it. But if you do what I have been guilty of, continually patching, you find yourself in sinking boat.
So as of today, I will 'Pretend' to be organized, connected and successful. You are who you pretend to be. Let us all pretend to be something positive in our lives and others.

Facebook postings I am proud of.
It comes down to this. What can we do as people to minimize the possibility that something like that will ever happen again. Whether you believe in god or not, we are here together. On one little planet in an unremarkable galaxy in a remote corner of the universe. Life is not a race. It is a classroom. We are here to learn from and teach each other. Some day all of humanity will be as one, as it should be. We separate each other with meaningless labels. We teach our children that 'We are different from them', because they look, believe, love or do different than we do. We devalue each other and are surprised when our children do (the same) to others. Those kids that murdered that boy found something in him that was 'wrong' to them. Did the devil teach them that? No. Society did. We taught them this. If the eye in the sky is truly looking down at us, we are a disappointment. We need to stop blaming satan, stop begging for god's help and reach out to each other. Only then will we truly understand the meaning of life.
It is only a matter of time when our children will say how ignorant we are for arguing this point. Not much different than how we feel about the civil rights fight of the 60's. It is simply ridiculous to deny people the right to what is clear in the Declaration. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
The problem comes when other peoples Happiness bothers others. Live and let live. Period. If you are "Godly" shame on you for casting a stone. Let your creator judge, not you. Don't quote me scripture. There are far too many contradicting ideologies and people only pick what is convenient for them. Sometimes mutilating the meanings simply to push an agenda. Jesus preached love and understanding. Let that be enough. Move on to important things like feeding the hungry, world peace and saving the planet.
