Pretending

I've heard it said, 'You are who you pretend you be.' It is an interesting thought. If you have spent any time on a social media site, you see people pretending. We spend thought on what label we will give ourselves when creating email accounts, user names and avatars that show online. I am AWE3 here, but is that my name? Not really. You are using an alias every time you leave your email address. As are your neighbors.
I have always tried to show a positive front with my online life. But very recently, I have decided to take it to a new level. I am going to embrace the saying above, 'You are who you pretend to be.'
For the longest time I have pretended to be unable, unwilling, clueless and afraid. This conflicts in the face of me trying to be positive and upbeat. But what I have been doing is only paying cursory attention to those items that need work.
It was called in my former line of work 'Putting out fires'. Only fixing what needs fixing when it breaks instead of preventing it from happening in the first place.
Many of us are guilty of doing this. Sometimes things pile up in your life so quickly or heavily, that it is easier to patch it and move on. That isn't so bad if you go back and repair it. But if you do what I have been guilty of, continually patching, you find yourself in sinking boat.
So as of today, I will 'Pretend' to be organized, connected and successful. You are who you pretend to be. Let us all pretend to be something positive in our lives and others.
